Apprenticed to Viennese Master potter, Franz Kukowetz at his Terra Nigra Studio in 1972.<\/p>\n

Sandi initially studied Majolica while working as production potter at the Old Chelsea Pottery in London. Today she makes intentionally small batches of reduction-fired stoneware. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Sandi is constantly testing new glazes and creating small batches of work with themes inspired by her environment. The soft coloured glazes are mostly ash-based. Native coastal vegetation, hinterland rainforest, apple and grapevine woods are all used. These are all burned separately to maintain the purity of the ash.<\/p>\n

Being a student of Japanese ink-painting for many years means much of her ceramic work becomes a canvas for Sumi-e brushwork<\/p>\n

All work is fired to 1280 degrees in a gas kiln.<\/p>\n

I acknowledge that I live and make on unceded Boonwurrung land. I acknowledge the Bunurong people as the traditional custodians of this region and pay my respects to Bunurong elders past and presen<\/em>t<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n
